Nevertheless many more students travel to and from school by personal vehicles than by school bus, contributing to traffic congestion and putting school-age children at greater risk. Schools have been increasing in size and drawing students from larger areas.
The current school transportation system faces a number of challenges with the introduction of additional school choice and the growing student population. Such challenges will increase demands on the school transportation system and influence transportation planning efforts. Parents will be able to register their children in any school, regardless of their home location
